Around the GGFA........

February 6, 2015

It was a nice beautiful day Saturday morning. We had just finished a nice breakfast and decided to go play 18 holes at Fort Lee, Virginia.  While out on the course, we just couldn't stop thinking about how good it was to be out there with each other not only playing golf, but talking about the wonderful things that God was doing in each of our lives.  As we continued talking about the goodness of the Lord, we both stated how good it would be for more ment to come together and play and fellowship.  Well as I returned back home to Columbia, SC, the Lord put in my heart to move forward and try to get some men together and play golf.  It was not the typical golf outing I was looking for, but something where we can get away and talk about some issues, problems, experiences, and blessings amongst each other in a location made for relaxation.  It was then that God & Golf Fellowship came forward  and we set a date and location of Myrtle Beach, SC to meet and play for four days and four rounds on some of the finest golf courses on the southern coast.  We pray that this vision continues to grown and more men will come out and fellowship through the game of golf!

Spacious layouts, designer furnishings, and easy access to 4 of the Southeast's finest Championship courses right on premise are just a few of the highlights of these two towers. Also included in most units are full kitchens, washer/dryers, internet access, and many other comforting amenities. The famed Barefoot Landing is adjacent to these properties, where you and your group can enjoy a wide array of restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment venues. This property also features the largest pool in South Carolina, a perfect spot to relax after a challenging day on the course. This is where we reside when attending our annual tournament.

We had a wonderful time this year at the First Annual Tournament.  We had the opportunity to play on four of the most prestine golf course in the North Myrtle Beach area. Day one we played on 18 holes on Barefoot Love, the same course that was played and aired on Big Break Myrtle Beach.  The next day, Saturday we played 36 holes total starting out with Barefoot Love in the morning again and Barefoot Fazio in the afternoon.  We then concluded on Sunday with another 18 holes on Barefoot Dye, the premier course played by many PGA golfers when in town. We all had a marvelous time and look forward to meeting you there next year!

This was our second year and we were thrilled to have more men join us. The fellowship and golf were more than we could have imagined. Although faced with some fierce weather on Friday as Hurricane Matthews came through, we were able to enjoy beautiful weather and golf for the remaining days. The Barefoot courses were again in stellar conditions and the service was exceptional. We received a wonderful word from the Lord from our Adjutant, Ronald Neely on Sunday. We are excited to see what is in store for next year and look forward to meeting and fellowshipping with more brothers.

This year was another year of wonderful fellowship and golf. We were blessed to have two new attendees this year with Mr. Clarence Tarry and Mr. Reginald Bryant, a father -son team out of North Carolina and Virginia. We had great weather this year for the most part besides the intial day where we were rained out. The fairways and greens were a little damp but we managed to have a great time and hit some good shots. Our locations changed this year as we decided to try other courses within the Myrtle Beach area. We played rounds at Azalea Sands, Possom Trot and Surf Club Resort & Golf Club. We unanomiously decided that Surf Club Resort & Golf Club was the premier out of them all. We also changed our lodging this year staying at the Ashworth Condos & Resorts. Overall it was a great time, closing it out with a great word from our very own Pastor Thomas Harrell. We are looking forward to next year and believing God that he will make it better and better each time.

This year celebrated our fifth year as an organization and fourth year fellowshipping at North Myrtle Beach. We were elated to add a new member to our Board of Directors in Jackie McDonald. He brings a wealth of knowledge in the field of finance and will serve as our new Treasurer. He is a native of Oklahoma, retired First Sergeant (US Army) and resides in Killeen, TX with his wife and two kids. We are honored to have him with us. Our topic this year was "Kingdom Men" and what is the biblical definition of manhood as it relates to being the leaders in our homes. Stephone Berry gave a great message from 1 Timothy 3:1-5. We watched Tony Evans "Kingdom Men Rising" and had an inciteful discussion afterwards. This years tournament was great as we returned to our roots, Barefoot Golf and Resorts. As always, the courses were immaculate and greens rolled great. This years winner was Ronald Neely for the fourth time. He was heavily chased and challenged by Stephone Berry. The first round, Ronald shot a 85 and Stephone a 92. Stephone won the second and third rounds with a 87, 93 respectively but was unable to close on the six stroke lead. Thomas Harrell Jr. came in third with an average of 122 and Jackie McDonald closed out with a 124. The weather was great during the tournament with a few days of light showers. Overall, this years tournament was a success and we look forward to meeting and fellowshipping with each other next year. We hope you will join us!
